The Six Stages of Invisalign
Invisalign has been a cosmetic dentistry Shreveport option for a while. It took awhile for Invisalign’s clear plastic trays to gain popularity. Until around 2044, the treatments didn’t really have any mainstream acceptance. According to the invisalign® , clear aligners now account for 6% of adolescent orthodontics and 31% of adult orthodontics.
Although the majority of patients are using methods other than Invisalign, having this other orthodontic method available has revolutionized dentistry. After all, Invisalign has a number of distinct advantages. For example:
- the treatment is almost invisible
- removable, patients can eat whatever they want and clean their teeth without any problems.
If you’re curious as to how the Invisalign process works, here’s a rundown:
Invisalign Process: Have a Consultation With Your Shreveport dentist
The first step of the Invisalign process is determining if it’s right for you. Invisalign Parker CO specialist, Dr. Chris Green explains that Invisalign is a versatile treatment system, but it doesn’t work for all patients. Beyond clinical considerations, we also need to consider the patient’s commitment to wearing the trays almost 24 hours a day. Insurance coverage and cost will also play a big role in whether or not this is a good solution for the patient.
Invisalign Process: Treatment Plan
Once you’ve decided to begin treatment with Invisalign, we’ll take x-rays, photographs and impressions of your teeth. These records are sent to invisalign® along with our treatment plan. Invisalign technicians generate a 3D model of the patient’s teeth and model how they move to their desired positions. We then check their work on our own computers and make adjustments or approve the model. After we approve, we ask invisalign® to make the trays.
Invisalign Process: Wait for the aligners
It might take about a month for the Invisalign Shreveport specialist, Dr. Be Kacos, to receive the clear aligners. He will notify you and set up an appointment once he receives them.
Invisalign Process: Wear the aligners
When you come in to receive the aligners, the treatment process begins. All the trays are different and are meant to be worn in a specific order. Each aligner is to be used for two weeks. As your treatment progresses, your teeth will get straighter and straighter. You can take out an aligner to eat or brush, but otherwise, you should basically always wear one during the treatment process. If you don’t, the movements of your teeth won’t progress as planned, and as you put in new aligners, they won’t fit correctly.
Invisalign Process: Refine your smile
If the last tray has been worn for two weeks, you may well be done with your Invisalign, but more often than not, a few teeth may still need some adjustment. It’s not unusual for this to happen. We’re going to inspect your teeth and maybe get back in touch with Invisalign to order a few more “refinement” trays. Again, it might take up to a month to get there. Invisalign expects many patients to need refining trays and there is no additional charge for them.
Invisalign Process: Keep your smile in place
After treatment is complete, you will need to wear retainers to give the bones of your jaw time to solidify around your new teeth. It is essential to wear your retainer for the next few months after treatment, but ideally, for the rest of your life, you should wear your retainer a little each week. After all, your teeth are always shifting and moving.
